After their debut in 1993 PDAs have evolved from a novelty to a necessity to remain connected. Some people find regular PDAs a bit too big for comfort. If you're the type of person who finds the traditional PDA cumbersome the wrist PDA is for you. Wrist PDAs help you maintain good connectivity when you are on the go.
A wrist watch like device is actually a full-fledged PDA, powered by an operating system. For instance the Wrist PDA from Fossil has 8Mb of memory and boasts a 160 x 160 pixel touch screen with drop-down menus to access applications and make notes. It comes with a selection of familiar Palm applications including contacts, calendar, memo pad, alarm etc.
Several watches from Timex Corporation combine some very simple PDA functions, such as name and telephone number storage, with the features of a SkyTel alphanumeric pager. These watches can also receive news and entertainment headlines from SkyTel and exchange name, telephone number, and schedule information with a PC through Timex's Data Link System.
Palmsource is a big name in high-tech watches. The company is teamed up with Fossil on the Wrist PDA. The Watch PDA looks like an oversized men's watch with a 160-by-160 display. The watch runs Palm OS 4.1, and has a 33-MHz Dragonball processor and 2MB of memory. An interesting feature is its miniature stylus, which is hidden inside the watchband and pops out so you can tap the tiny screen. |
